Vermont became first state to call for U.S. withdrawl from Iraq
by Mandi Jones
On Tuesday, February 13, Vermont's House and Senate passed resolutions demanding the withdrawl of U.S. troops from Iraq. The timetable was based on an immediate but orderly removal as Vermont became the first state to pass such a resolution against the continuance of the war. Vermont leads the nation in numbers of troop deaths per capita.
Today Amy Goodman interviewed the author of the Vermont State House resolution, Representative Michael Fisher (D) on Democracy Now! (you can listen to here). The action of the Vermont State Legislature comes as at least twenty-one other states seek to pass their own resolutions against the Administration's escalation in Iraq due to many legislators feeling Congress is simply not doing enough. The House continues to debate its own non-binding measure against the escalation in Washington D.C.
