Feisty Aphrodite’s Mission

Believing that knowledge is power, Feisty Aphrodite strives to empower women to use their own voice to raise awareness of the issues we face through technology training workshops, providing independent media coverage and evoking social change through grassroots media activism.

Feisty Aphrodite was conceived of by two frustrated women fed-up with the corporate media’s lack of responsibility to educate its people. We launched the site on July 4, 2006 postulating that the anniversary of America’s date of independence would be fitting for a company that focuses on freedom of thought, action and belief.
Both of us believed that the current state of the media was, and still is, in a serious state of ethical and moral decay. We questioned why media outlets spent precious time on stories of celebrity mishaps or rescued dogs (don’t get us wrong - we both love dogs) instead of focusing on vital issues important to the American public. We pondered why today’s journalists did not question our world leaders more critically. We wondered why the First Amendment was under such brutal assault while our eyes and ears were deadened by the endless stream of propagated news stories that broke daily over the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. We felt that truth in journalism had become bedfellows with the current administration and people forgot what honest journalism was all about.

Feisty Aphrodite was born out of these questions. While we are a small group as of this writing, we know that there are other people like us, people angry with the way the media is force fed into our mouths while swallowing each sour bite of stewed peas. Our hope and desire for this movement is to gain momentum, reach out worldwide and get the truth out.

We encourage everyone from all walks of life to examine the “truths” we are told, to think for themselves and to care about the direction America is taking. Freedom is the basis of America and now is the time to stand up for it.

Behind The Name

Aphrodite is the goddess of love. However, she’s also credited with causing the Trojan War by trying to win a vanity contest between herself, Hera and Athena. The three goddesses decided to allow the most handsome mortal, Paris, to choose who was the most attractive of them all. The three goddesses bribed young Paris but Aphrodite knew that he would be more impressed with the love of the most beautiful woman of the world, Helen. Unfortunately for the two mortals, Helen was married to the king of Sparta at the time. After Paris awarded the title of “fairest of them all” to Aphrodite, she assisted him in eloping with Helen, thus starting the Trojan war.

Feisty Aphrodite embraces the goddess we are named after. After all, she is the goddess of love and we believe that love, compassion, empathy and understanding will guide this nation to a better place than where it is in now. We also understand that in order for peace to be a reality, we must be fierce and unstoppable. We must scream and shout to get our message out; we must be feisty.
